Abstract
Accidental hypothermia is so common that it is treated as an inevitable conseguence of surgery and anesthesia. Its potentially harmful effects tend to be taken lightly by surgeon and anesthetist alike. However, as the number of high-risk elderly patients is increasing, and longer procedures are being unertaken, this aspect of patient management requires attention. This article will review thermoregulation, physiologic effect and prevention.
